Boy & Bear - Milk & Sticks + NEW ALBUM COMING SOON

This is my second post on Boy & Bear and if you ask me, they deserve it. This is their latest single, released just the other week. I showed this band to a friend and they described them as a better version of Mumford & Sons. I think he described them perfectly. They have a really good sound and this single definitely shows consistency. They also recently announced that a new album is to be released on August 5th. I cannot wait!

In 2010 Boy & Bear released an EP, 'With Emperor Antarctica'. This brought them international success. They recieved Rolling Stone’s Artist To Watch of 2010 and Triple J’s Unearthed Artist of the Year. Now with their new album, Moonfire, out August 5, who knows how big they will become.

Scouting For Girls - Love How it Hurts

I have been a fan of Scouting for Girls for a number of years. I found this song from a routine check of whether they have any new songs. This song, recently released makes for some good listening. It is worth listening to and definately worth having on your iPod and also check out their albums. I will put some of their other noteworthy songs at the bottom.

Scouting for girls formed in 2005 in London. They have released two albums. Which includes some other ripper singles! They have reached some pop success in the UK but to everywhere else they are still a pretty indie band.

Sparkadia - Talking Like I'm Falling Down Stairs

The first thing you should know is that this song is not Sparkadia's latest single, but it is my favourite (just ahead of their song 'China'). The first time I saw and heard of Sparkadia was a while ago. They were a supporting act to a band I was seeing. They actually played the same songs as what they have just released. Their song 'Mary' (their latest single) has seen some success putting them back in the limelight. I personally really enjoy this song, but the video does not do it justice. I am sure you will enjoy it anyway.

Sparkadia formed in Sydney in 2004. They have released two albums and an EP. They have toured with many bands as supporting acts including 'Little Red', 'Tegan and Sara' and 'Ben Lee'.

Album of the Week no. 4: Passenger

This isn't such a new album. Maybe a year old... but it is fantastic! It is titled 'Flight of the Crow'. Almost all of Passenger's songs have been featuring other bands that I love. They have created music that is brilliant and easy to listen to. I know that this type of album will get plenty of listening to.

Passenger is the brain child of a 26 year old English man, Mike Rosenberg. Passenger have released a couple albums. They have teamed up with many big name artists in the indie scene.

Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know

This song was released earlier this month. At first I was hesitant whether I liked it or not. I think that had a lot to do with how unique and abstract this song and video clip is. After listening to the song a few times over the course of the week I have come to the conclusion that I quite like the song. I have also decided that the video makes this song a lot better. It features Kimbra who also featured in one of Miami Horror's singles.

Gotye is pronounced "Gore-ti-yeah". He was born in Belguim but grew up in Melbourne, Australia. He has released a number of albums. His latest is due out on the 19th of August 2011. It will be interesting to see what that album will be like. I will be sure to keep you posted.

#1 Australian Album of All Time - Odyssey No. 5

Powderfinger's Oddysey No. 5 was recently voted on Triple J as the number one Australian album of all time. It featured the hits My Happiness and These Days. I saw them live in their last ever performance in Melbourne and it was fantastic! I must admit that I didn't think this album would be #1 but I sure did want it to be.

Waiting For The Sun
My Happiness
The Metre
Like a Dog
Odyssey #5
Up and Down and Back Again (Live)
My Kinda Scene
These Days
We Should Be Together Now
Thrilloilogy
Whatever Makes You Happy

Powderfinger are an iconic, popular, Australian, rockband. This and their album Vulture Street are considered to be modern Australian classics. Just last year the broke up after an Australian wide 'Sunset' Tour. Bernard Fanning the lead singer had a short stint as a solo artist releasing his own album. Powderfinger have released many albums over the past two decades and all are worth checking out and certainly worth listening to their singles.

The Kooks - Is It Me NEW SINGLE

It is finally here. The long awaited release of The Kooks brand new single and boy, does it deliver. I have really missed The Kooks the past few years. They have managed to produce a typical Kooks song, that satisfies my hunger for them. I am so happy they are back, now I just have to wait for their new album, recently given the title 'Junk of the Heart', which to be released in September this year.

The Kooks are originally from Brighton in the UK. After a great debut album, 'Inside In / Inside Out' featuring the smash hit Naive, The Kooks began to receive a cult following (from people like me). Their second album was just as successful, 'Konk' debuted at number 1 on the album charts. Now they are doing the finishing touches to their third album due for release on September 12th (13th for the US).

The Kooks have also released a couple other new singles which are linked below:
Saboteur
Junk of the Heart (Happy)

The Republic Tigers - Merrymake it With Me

The Republic Tigers featured in my 'Chillout' compilation. This, Merrymake it With Me is their latest single. It sounds a bit happier than their previous songs I have listened to. Often it takes time for me to appreciate and enjoy a song, in this case I immediately like it. Definately a good sign!

The Republic Tigers are based in Kansas City. They released their first full length album in 2008. Just recently in April they released a brand new EP titled No Man's Land. Hopefully The Republic Tigers will become bigger on the Indie Rock scene.

Phoenix - Everything is Everything

Often Phoenix's old songs are forgotten. Their highly successful album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was eye catching but so are some of their older songs. This song, Everything is Everything, is very catchy. It is has a bit of an abstract sound but that only makes it more memorable.

Phoenix are a band from Paris. They have released a number of albums and have toured all over the world. Recently they have seen world wide success with their singles 1901 and Lasso.

Of Monsters & Men - Little Talks

I am really enjoying this song. It is very unique, rarely have I seen a band that uses the accordion that I enjoy. It's pretty chilled but is still pretty optimistic, a rare blend that when done well makes a killer combo.

Of Monsters And Men, formed in 2010, are a six-piece indie/folk band from Reykjavík, Iceland. They are the winner of Músiktilraunir 2010 which is Icelandic battle of the bands. Try pronouncing the member's names, I know I can't, Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, Ragnar Þórhallsson, Brynjar Leifsson, Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson, Kristján Páll Kristjánsson, Árni Guðjónsson.

Album of the Week no. 3: Living on the Edge of Time

This weeks album of the week is Yuksek's Living on the Edge of Time. This album is a stark contrast to the previous album of the week. It is as close to dance music I ever listen to but most of the songs are very enjoyable. On a Train is my favorite song from the album and is definitely noteworthy but another worth looking at is Off the Wall.

Always on the Run
White Keys
Off the Wall
On a Train
Say a Word
To See You Smile
The Edge
Fireworks
Miracle
You Should Talk
Dead or Alive

Yuksek's true name is Pierre, he is originally from France. Living on the Edge of Time was released mid-way through last month. Enjoy

The Wombats - Our Perfect Disease

Just days ago The Wombats released a new video clip for the song Our Perfect Disease. This an exclusive to Triple J, an Australian radio station. In order to view the video clip you need the link, luckily I have it and I am sharing it to you

I saw this song live and the atmosphere was electric! It was a sold out gig. This is The Wombats fifth single from their new album. Their album is definitely must hear if you like high energy, indie pop (an odd combo of words to put together but in this case very true) songs.

The Wombats are from Liverpool and have released two albums, A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation and The Wombats proudly present... This Modern Glitch. Both have been very successful. The second of which was released in April this year. The first single from This Modern Glitch, Tokyo, went number one in many countries across the globe. The Wombats currently touring Europe and will tour England soon.

The Panics - Majesty + NEW ALBUM COMING SOON

Many years ago now The Panics released a song, Don't Fight It and it quickly became one of my favourite songs and one that helped shaped my music taste. Majesty is no different. Within days it has become my favourite song and I am sure it will be your's soon enough too. I can't wait for the album to be released later this month!
